Addiction

The only choice for a chemically dependent addict is to choose recovery every day. The addiction already chooses the addict each day. Treatment involves identifying the severity of the addiction, appropriate level of treatment, behavioral and psychological modification to acheive long-term sobriety.

Anxiety

Anxiety is rooted in our past or future. It has nothing to do with our present moment. It is our futile effort to control things outside of our control. Learning how to be present in the moment and take ownership of the things we can control is a primary goal of this treatment.

Family of Addiction

Addiction is a family illness. There are a number of common roles family members fulfill. The common goals of this treatment are to identify family roles, healthy boundaries, improve communication, and focus on the variables within each member's control and no longer letting the addiction dictate how the family functions.

Depression

Depression is a normal mood that can become a clinical disorder when it begins to interfere with our level of functioning over an extended period of time. A number of factors contribute to a depressive mood. The common goal is to assess which factors can be reasonably modified to improve functioning and mood stability.

Grief

"Grief is just love with nowhere to go." This is my favorite quote about grief because it speaks to the core of most grief. Grief is about the process, not the destination. Most people come to therapy to learn how to grieve in a healthy way because culture promotes so many unhealthy ways to grieve.

Young Adult

Young adulthood has become increasingly difficult to navigate. Cultural, occupational, educational, and relational factors have left the current generation of young adults with more uncertainty than recent generations. Identity development is foundational in all areas of future growth.

Pastoral Care vs. Biblical Counseling

I am professionally trained in evidence-based clinical theory and practice. I am fortunate to have the private practice freedom to explore each client's individual faith journey if they so choose. Pastoral care is simply an invitation to explore how a client's faith beliefs and practices can be integrated into treatment at their discretion. It is not uncommon for clients to request their perspective of prayer to be incorporated into sessions. This is a welcomed invitation.

I do not provide a biblical counseling model that would involve reading from a specific religious text or religious perspective in treatment. I attempt to understand each individual from a cumulative perspective of mind, body, and spirit as this reveals the fullest image of a person.
